The Airdrie fire department responded to a structure fire at 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.
A two-story residential home that was under construction in Airdrie’s southwest Chinook Gate neighbourhood caught on fire and was completely engulfed in flames upon the Airdrie fire department's arrival. The initial fire spread to the neighbouring house, which also became completely engulfed.
The fire department managed to quickly get the fire under control and remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots, according to a press release on Aug. 12.
The release said damage to the initial home is extensive and will be considered a full loss. The adjacent home, which was in the early stages of construction, will also be deemed a complete loss. A third home also received damage to an exposed exterior wall due to the extreme heat emitted from the fire.
Six fire apparatus' and 13 firefighters responded to the incident.
Those living or travelling to the Chinook Gate area may experience road closures and travel delays.
No injuries have been reported as of press time and an investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
This is the second structure fire of the week, with the first occurring on Tuesday evening around 4:30 p.m. Airdrie fire crew responded to a house fire in Airdrie's Hillcrest community, which resulted in the total destruction of one house with potential damage to others neighbouring the house.
